The gods have long tried to withstand darkness and chaos, but not even they can hold out forever. Their enemies are multiplying and the day is approaching when the Aesir, and all the earth with them, will fall. This apocalypse is called Ragnarok, and it is something Odin has been trying to thwart since the beginning of time.
The forces of good and evil meet on the Plain of Vigrid, beyond Asgard. There stands Loki with his forces from the underworld, in the company of Fenrir the wolf, the Midgard Serpent, and the hellhound Garm. The giant Hrym leads the frost giants, and Surt stands prepared at the head of the endless hosts of Muspel that form a band of light stretching from horizon to horizon. The giants are followed by hordes of trolls, dragons and other monsters.
