Slavic fairy tales and legends are filled with dragons known as zmey or zmei. Like their relatives in the west, they have a penchant for kidnapping virgins and princesses. Sometimes for their bride, but more often for dinner. Slavic dragons often had more than one head and are thus reminiscent of the Hydra.
The illustration is from the book Dragons.
